A Quick Overview:
www.webhostinghub.com is a popular web hosting company widely recognized for their affordable, reliable, and developer-friendly platform. Web Hosting Hub is a great choice for small business owners, start-up entrepreneurs, independent computer professionals, and online media publishers who are looking for a no-hassle, no-strings-attached service with above par technical support. Web Hosting Hub offers many free tools and bonus offers along with their exceptionally fast shared hosting plans – all at a comparatively low price. Web Hosting Hub has established a unique method of scaling server resources on their shared hosting plans. Rather than allocating all of the accounts with the same CPU & RAM usage rates, as most companies in the industry do, Web Hosting Hub provides 200% to 400% more resources on their higher value accounts. Under this optimized framework, customers receive better performance for CMS websites and database applications. Because of Web Hosting Hub's commitment to web standards, development requirements, and their low introductory pricing offers, the company has rapidly grown into a well-respected web host, winning numerous awards, and helping thousands of business owners to publish information online.
Why choose Web Hosting Hub:
- Affordable & reliable web hosting services made for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and developers
- High-performance Linux web hosting with numerous popular features
- Suitable for both beginners & professionals
- Free tools to backup and restore your website at any time
- Custom web design services for absolute beginners who need help building a site
- Allows customers to choose geographical server location during checkout for maximum speeds & reduced latency
- A great choice for WordPress with a “1 click” install via Softaculous
- Amazing customer support via phone, live chat, or email ticket system
What are the disadvantages:
- No VPS or dedicated hosting plans for larger sites
- Their basic hosting plan (Spark) is limited to only two sites
- No easy integration with Google Apps for Work – must configure manually
- Phone verification required on new accounts before customers can use the site
The bottom line:
Web Hosting Hub is a great choice for shared web hosting. We highly recommend them for small business owners, web entrepreneurs, start-up companies, and design professionals. Their hosting is fast, reliable, and affordable. They do not have VPS or dedicated server plans, but offer all the tools and features required from a shared hosting plan to help you build a new site and get it online. They are also perfect for affordable WordPress hosting, with the BoldGrid website builder now included with all accounts. Customers receive a free “domain for life” as well as an initial migration of site files from another company at no additional charge. Their servers run CentOS Linux with cPanel, PHP 5, and suPHP encryption in a standard configuration. Because Web Hosting Hub's business model is based on support for open source CMS website requirements (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, OpenCart, etc.), we would not hesitate to recommend them to site owners who need a reliable platform for LAMP development.

Web Hosting Hub was founded in 2010 by Sunil Saxena and Todd Robinson, the same folks who created InMotion Hosting in 2001. Sunil & Todd launched Web Hosting Hub with one goal in mind: to provide easy-to-setup and affordable web hosting solutions for do-it-yourselfers. Sunil has stated that when looking at the web hosting industry, he felt that the demographic of new developers and designers were consistently being underserved by the larger companies. Out of this recognition, Web Hosting Hub was founded with a focus on technical innovation and customer satisfaction. The company is headquartered in Virginia Beach and currently has over 200 team members. It is an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating. Web Hosting Hub has won numerous awards since their launch for being one of the best shared hosting services in the industry.
Web Hosting Hub only offers three shared web hosting plans. They have no VPS platform or dedicated server rentals. While they do not compete in the marketplace to provide solutions for exceedingly high traffic websites, Web Hosting Hub is ideal for self-publishing small business information. Consider Web Hosting Hub's plans for local restaurants, small ecommerce stores, photo galleries, artist portfolios, wikis, forums, and blog sites. While the introductory Spark plan is limited to hosting only two websites maximum, clients get double the server RAM & CPU resources on the Nitro plan with the ability to host unlimited domains under cPanel. With the Dynamo plan, customers get 4x the shared server resources for hosting websites available with the Spark plan. This makes the advanced plans a better value than other web hosts, and also increases the performance for hosted CMS scripts and database applications. We like the simplicity, industry standard features, and technical configuration of the Web Hosting Hub plans, recommending them to clients for regular use.
Overview of Web Hosting Hub's Shared Hosting Plans
|Shared Plans:||Introductory Price:||Renewal Price:||Compare:|
Spark is the introductory plan from Web Hosting Hub that is intended for single or dual site owners. Because the Nitro and Dynamo plans have 2x and 4x the server resource allocations over Spark respectively, we actually prefer these plans along with the unlimited domain hosting options they provide over the introductory account. All of Web Hosting Hub's servers run on factory-direct Dell rackmount servers with solid state drives (SSDs) which perform at 20x faster speeds than traditional HDDs in web page loading times. Support for both MySQL & PostgreSQL databases is a developer-friendly option, and all accounts come with SSH access. Otherwise, the use of cPanel on CentOS Linux, the free domain with new account registration, “one-click” script installers, and zero downtime guarantees are all industry standard. Web Hosting Hub also gives new account sign-ups between $75 and $250 in Google AdSense, Bing, and Yahoo! ad credits, depending on the plan. Use of the BoldGrid website builder is a definite plus for those developing on the WordPress platform.
Shared Hosting – Spark: 2 Websites, 1 GB RAM, 100 Entry Processes, 1 Mb/s I/O, 40 Simultaneous Connections, $75 Ad Credits
The main reason Web Hosting Hub performs better than other shared hosting plans at other companies is that they provide a larger resource allocation on the hardware. For the Spark plan, this equates to 40% of CPU resources, 2 GB virtual RAM, 1 GB physical memory, and 40 simultaneous user connections. This is two to three times what shared hosting accounts at other companies provide, at a cheaper price.
Shared Hosting – Nitro: Unlimited Websites, 2 GB RAM, 200 Entry Processes, 1.5 Mb/s I/O, 80 Simultaneous Connections, $175 Ad Credits
Similarly, on the Nitro plan, site owners can host unlimited domains with an allocation of 80% of CPU resources, 4 GB virtual RAM, 2 GB physical memory, and 80 simultaneous user connections. This is about 4x to 6x what other comparable shared hosting plans offer even at top of the line competitor companies. While many web hosts do not actively publicize these statistics, they determine CPU throttling rates, page time-out limits, and the occurrence of websites going offline during traffic spikes.
Shared Hosting – Dynamo: Unlimited Websites, 4 GB RAM, 350 Entry Processes, 2 Mb/s I/O, 120 Simultaneous Connections, $250 Ad Credits
The Dynamo plan at Web Hosting Hub offers 100% of CPU resources, 8 GB virtual RAM, 4 GB physical memory, and 120 simultaneous user connections. This is 6x to 8x the power of a standard shared hosting plan at other companies. For this reason, we highly recommend doing the research on these statistics, as more than any other issue, these factors will determine the performance and page load times of CMS websites running under a shared hosting framework.
Thus, while Web Hosting Hub provides the same cPanel Linux hosting running on CentOS that most of the other companies in the industry use, their means of allocating RAM, CPU resources, and account traffic limits on shared hosting plans is unique. Where other companies often advertise similar resource allocation features as a new “cloud” platform, we believe that Web Hosting Hub makes the right choice by using this system as a means to improve existing shared hosting accounts using cPanel. Most companies in the industry continue legacy shared hosting plans on much lower server resource limits. Web Hosting Hub deserves a lot of credit for implementing these resource allocation improvements on their shared hosting service, and we believe users experience significant page load speed and website performance gains as a consequence of this.
When you purchase any of the above plans from Web Hosting Hub, you’ll first login to the Account Management Panel (AMP). Within the AMP, you can easily manage your entire account with Web Hosting Hub and of course, add any extra services you may need. The AMP that they use is very streamlined and efficient. It’s very similar to their sister company, InMotion Hosting, except has different styling to match their own colors and branding. The AMP dashboard has easy access to all of the most commonly used features and services to help you get started quickly. For example, you can easily purchase a dedicated IP address for your site or add the McAfee email protection service. Overall, we feel that their AMP offers an efficient layout for managing a web hosting account. Of course, if you’ve never hosted any website before, it may take some time for you to get familiar with and feel more comfortable navigating around. Below is a screenshot of the AMP:
Review of the Control Panel
Web Hosting Hub uses cPanel, the industry standard means for managing multi-domain hosting and server configuration settings for web development. You can quickly access your cPanel dashboard via the AMP or by typing “/cpanel” at the end of your site’s URL. Web Hosting Hub’s cPanel was recently updated to match the company's branding (as shown below). This is a common practice for many web hosts and the control panel looks great.
Some of the options provided by Web Hosting Hub in their cPanel implementation are not found on other hosting plans at other companies. This includes the McAfee Email Protection application, an Email & Newsletter Marketing service, Internet Fax, VoIP calling, credit card processing utilities, and BoxTrapper. While many users may not make full use of these options, the free provision of these extra tools with the standard cPanel utilities enhances an already excellent set of resources for domain management.
Servers: Web Hosting Hub has 2 data centers – one located on the East coast in Ashburn, VA and the other in Los Angeles, CA. They use a pooled server architecture with custom-built Dell R710 servers. Using premium hardware and Tier 1 networks for routing data, their web hosting speeds are very fast, especially for customers located throughout all of North America. Another notable benefit that Web Hosting Hub offers is the ability for customers to choose the data center where they prefer their site to be hosted at geographically. This further helps to decrease the physical distance between you and your website, reducing latency and improving page load speeds.
The full server resource allocations for each Web Hosting Hub shared hosting plan are:
Spark: 40% of CPU Resources, 2GB Virtual RAM, 1GB Physical Memory, 1Mb/s I/O Process Speed, 100 Simultaneous Processes, & 40 Concurrent Users
Nitro: 80% of CPU Resources, 4GB Virtual RAM, 2GB Physical Memory, 1.5Mb/s I/O Process Speed, 200 Simultaneous Processes, & 80 Concurrent Users
Dynamo: 100% of CPU Resources, 8GB Virtual RAM, 4GB Physical Memory, 2Mb/s I/O Process Speed, 350 Simultaneous Processes, & 120 Concurrent Users
Network: Our own experience with Web Hosting Hub has been very positive, especially when it comes to website performance & network reliability. Sites hosted with Web Hosting Hub tend to load very quickly and score well in benchmark tests. This is especially beneficial for Google, which now uses page load speed in their ranking algorithm.
Performance: We continually test and monitor the performance of Web Hosting Hub with Pingdom site monitoring tools to get a more technical measure of performance data. The results below are dynamically pulled from Pingdom:
Hosting Type Tested: Shared
Hosting Plan: Spark
Location Tested: North America
Description: Performance stats of the last 30 days from our Web Hosting Hub test account.
NOTE ABOUT TEST STATS: Keep in mind the above data is not fully representative of all the websites hosted on Web Hosting Hub. There are too many factors that influence performance stats – including the specific server the site is hosted on, the web hosting plan chosen, the optimization of the actual website, scheduled maintenance, geolocation, etc. Our tests are performed on low-end shared hosting accounts for each web host reviewed to showcase the most modest performance stats.

Some Things to Consider Before You Purchase…
As with any web host, there are some things that could be improved. We’ve discussed many of the pros for Web Hosting Hub, but here’s a further explanation of the cons:
No VPS or Dedicated Hosting Plans: As mentioned above, Web Hosting Hub is not suited for large websites and only offers shared hosting plans. This is fine as long as you only need a shared hosting plan. Some sites may outgrow a shared hosting platform and will unfortunately need to migrate away to a different web host. Site migration is always a headache, so it's best to avoid it if you’re expecting your site might one day need a VPS plan. However if you’re certain your site will only need a shared hosting account, Web Hosting Hub can be ideal.
Limited Add-on Sites: Not much of big deal but still a con, is Web Hosting Hub’s limit of site add-ons for the Spark plan (their most basic hosting plan). For the Spark plan, you’re only allowed to host 2 websites on the account. If you’re planning on hosting more, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher tier plan.
Google Apps for Work: There is no easy integration of Google Apps for Work with Web Hosting Hub. Some web hosts offer an integrated, graphical wizard to help you connect your domain with Google. Naturally you can still use Google Apps for Work, but will need to manually configure it. This as an inconvenience and makes things tougher for beginners to figure out. Since Web Hosting Hub is geared toward making things quick and easy, we’re hoping that they may soon offer this.
Phone Verification of New Accounts: While Web Hosting Hub advertises the personal services provided by the onboarding process as a plus, many users may not like the need to verify a new account over the phone. You will need to wait before logging in for the first time and using the account until after the verification process is complete.

Additional Features Worth Mentioning
Web Hosting Hub also offers their own in-house web design services for small businesses which include support for many popular open source CMS and ecommerce platforms. The account plans offer support for 15 to 30 pages, including database installation, theme design, and content creation. The company will also dedicate up to one hour of time doing security upgrades for the installed scripts. While they do not have set prices available for these packages, some businesses may find the service helpful if they do not have familiarity with other web development firms in the sector. However, Web Hosting Hub does not do custom PHP coding or new module development for CMS sites, making the service somewhat limited.
Support for PostgreSQL: All plans now include support for PostgreSQL databases, which is an alternative to MySQL.
SSH Access: Web Hosting Hub now allows SSH Access for customers! This allows for faster and more powerful command line management of the server rather than using a graphical user interface, including support for version control software like Git or using Drush, WP-CLI, etc. with CMS platforms.
Free SSDs: Every web hosting plan at Web Hosting Hub now includes the use of solid state drives (SSDs) for storage on the servers. Solid state drives will provide 20x faster content delivery and page load times over HDDs. These hardware upgrades are now included free of charge with every shared hosting plan.
Newly Designed Website: Web Hosting Hub launched a brand new website on February 16, 2015. The website got a completely new look and is fully responsive. Web Hosting Hub stated “The new design is user friendly and completely responsive with a focus on making our product offerings easy to understand.”
Introduction of Nitro & Dynamo: Web Hosting Hub launched 2 new shared hosting plans called Nitro & Dynamo to better serve their more CPU intensive customers. These new plans will boost performance for customers who need extra performance power in web development.
Improved Checkout: Web Hosting Hub is currently in the process of improving their checkout. Although not yet implemented, this will help make the checkout experience easier for new customers to navigate during the sign-up process.
Upgraded Site Builder to BoldGrid: Web Hosting Hub has scrapped their old website builder platform in favor of the introduction of BoldGrid. While this is a big improvement, it will only be useful for site owners using WordPress in web development.
Conclusion – To Host or Not to Host?
