A Quick Overview:
www.greengeeks.com is an independently owned web hosting company that provides shared, reseller, VPS, and dedicated server web hosting services with an emphasis on being “eco-conscious” in all aspects of business operations. We’ve found GreenGeeks to be a very professional organization with excellent data center resources and helpful technical support agents. All of GreenGeeks web hosting plans are based on zero-emission, renewable energy sources. GreenGeeks web hosting plans are popular with individuals, small businesses, start-up companies, non-profits, and enterprise corporations. Their shared hosting plans offer the best value, although upgrading to a VPS or dedicated hosting platform can get costly. GreenGeeks have a good mix of features on each plan and stand out against the competition in major ways, where we would not hesitate to recommend them as a good, all-purpose web host based on their proven standards of performance.
Why choose GreenGreeks:
- A wide range of hosting plans suitable for all purpose hosting
- Recently upgraded server hardware & improved network infrastructure
- Free domain name registration & unlimited domains on each account
- Unlimited web space & data transfer for shared hosting plans
- State-of-the-art, innovative data center based on renewable energy
- Great for Reseller hosting – 5 different plans available
- Customer support via an email ticket system, live chat, or phone
- Helpful video tutorials explaining how to do many popular tasks
What are the disadvantages:
- Relatively expensive VPS and Dedicated hosting plans
- Phone support number is hard to find for logged in customers
- GreenGeek’s Website Builder is unique, yet not the best choice
- Repeated user complaints over fraudulent billing issues
- Hefty renewal rates on shared hosting after initial sign-up
The bottom line:
GreenGeeks is a good, all-purpose web host with a variety of web hosting plans to choose from that fit the needs of every type of web publishing. We would recommend GreenGeeks primarily for their basic shared hosting plan as it offers great performance and features at a decent price. GreenGeeks Ecosite Starter plan is a good value, but customers should be aware of the increased renewal rate at the end of the initial sign-up term. Furthermore, their VPS & Dedicated plans are expensive compared to other web hosting companies. GreenGeeks has mixed reviews of customer satisfaction ratings and a history of billing issues. Customer support is generally swift and efficient, and they also offer helpful video tutorials with a knowledge base that customers can refer to for solving problems. As usual, clients may end up paying slightly more for “environmentally friendly” services.

Sorry, there are no customer user reviews for this web host yet.
GreenGeeks was founded in 2008 by Trey Gardner who had a mission to “offer the most feature rich web hosting products and services available anywhere on the internet” with an emphasis on environmental ethics across all aspects of business operations. As their name suggests, GreenGeeks is eco-friendly and powered by 300% wind energy. This means that they put back into the grid 3 times the amount of energy that their servers consume. According to a recent GreenGeeks press release, the web hosting industry will become as big of a polluter as the airline industry by 2020. Today, GreenGeeks is the world’s most eco-friendly web hosting service. GreenGeeks started off small in California, but since then, has rapidly grown into a worldwide web host, hosting over 100,000 websites.
GreenGeeks has recently reduced their offering of shared web hosting plans to a single account which they call the Ecosite Starter. The company offers a large introductory discount when signing up at $3.95/month with the ability to pre-pay for one, two, or three years in advance. GreenGeeks offers several VPS and dedicated hosting plans with monthly billing and no sign-up discount, though we offer our readers the ability to receive a 20% discount on new accounts using our GreenGeeks coupon. As GreenGeeks web hosting plans are comparably expensive, the price tag is something to consider even if you currently are only looking for a new shared hosting account. GreenGeeks Ecosite Starter hosting renews at $9.95 per month, so there is a major incentive to lock in the best deal for up to three years. GreenGeeks will pro-rate the balance towards a new account if you decide to upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server as your website traffic scales. Here’s a quick overview of all their web hosting plans:
Overview of the GreenGeeks Shared Business Hosting Plans
|Shared Plans:||Introductory Price:||Renewal Price:||Compare:|
|Ecosite Starter||$3.95/mo||$9.95/mo||View Details|
|WordPress Hosting||$3.95/mo||$9.95/mo||View Details|
Ecosite Starter plans from GreenGeeks offer industry standard services such as cPanel-based shared hosting with unlimited domains, unlimited databases, unlimited disk space, and unlimited data transfer at a low introductory cost for new sign-ups. Account registration includes a free domain name which is used to manage the administration features. GreenGeeks will migrate your site from another hosting company for free, including site files and database transfer. All shared hosting accounts include 24/7/365 technical support with quick replies to support tickets averaging 4 to 6 hours. Like most web hosts, GreenGeeks offers a 99.99% uptime service guarantee.
GreenGeeks runs an enhanced version of cPanel on shared hosting accounts with all of the standard features including Softaculous and Fantastico for “one-click” script installation. FTP, email accounts, MySQL databases, and server administration is done through the cPanel administration interface. GreenGeeks shared hosting is developer-friendly with SSH access, customized .htaccess support, automatic back-ups, and enhanced security features on all accounts. The server architecture is based on quad-core Intel Xeon processors with a minimum of 64 GB DDR3 ECC RAM and accelerated RAID-10 SSD storage arrays. GreenGeeks has data centers in Chicago, Phoenix, and Toronto with the ability to choose the geo-location for best local performance.
Ecosite Starter Hosting: Unlimited Domains, Storage Space, Data Transfer, and MySQL Databases
Most small businesses and website owners will prefer the Ecosite Starter account. The standard configuration is 20% of CPU resources, 1024MB virtual RAM (384MB physical RAM), and 20 concurrent connections per account. Websites that exceed these account limits regularly will need to upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server or risk site time-outs and shut-downs.
Managed WordPress Hosting: 1-Click WordPress Installer, WP-CLI, SSH Shell Access, Custom PHP.INI, & Git
GreenGeeks recently launched managed WordPress hosting with an optimized environment for websites that run on the popular CMS platform. While the basic configuration is the same as the Ecosite Starter account, the addition of pre-installed tools for WordPress is popular with developers and can provide performance gains over comparable services.
Since the Ecosite Starter and WordPress hosting plans at GreenGeeks cost the same on a monthly basis, the choice between the two is based on personal need for platform-specific development tools. The optimized performance utilization for WordPress provides a definite value-added gain for serious developers and site owners. GreenGeeks offers free integration with the CloudFlare CDN service for both shared hosting and WordPress accounts. In summary, GreenGeeks is clearly hiring talented specialists to innovate in building a custom data center and with this comes a portfolio of new tools which will help developers to build custom websites across all platforms on server architecture that is considered some of the best in the industry.

The GreenGeeks VPS hosting plans run on the OpenVZ platform, which provides a standardized managed framework where the same operating system is used on all accounts. Currently GreenGeeks runs CentOS version 5.1 on all VPS accounts with cPanel and WHM licenses included for free. Root access is provided for the VPS plans, so developers will have the full freedom to configure the server environment using command line tools for needed extensions. However, with OpenVZ, VPS users will not have the ability to install other versions of Linux or Windows. With this GreenGeeks have developed a proprietary control panel for managing VPS settings, monitoring resource usage, and ordering seamless service upgrades. As an added bonus, all GreenGeeks VPS users get a free eNom domain reseller account, so that they are providing all of the tools except for ClientExec that they include with Reseller plans on the shared framework. A cPanel license for VPS normally costs $20 per month and the eNom reseller account is valued at $995 per year, making these hosting plans from GreenGeeks much more cost effective. Under the managed VPS platform, GreenGeeks will also provide regular security upgrades, firewall configuration, advanced web security features, and nightly site back-ups that provide an extra layer of insurance to lessen the need for a dedicated systems administrator for performance-based web hosting.
VPS Hosting – 1GB RAM: 25GB SSD RAID-10 Storage, 1TB Bandwidth, 4 Core CPU, 1GB RAM
All GreenGeeks VPS hosting plans run on the same server architecture with the main difference being the amount of dedicated resources allocated to each account. The 1GB VPS plan is ideal when a CMS website requires more processing power to serve dynamic content from the database than the shared hosting accounts provide. The 1 GB VPS plans provide around three times the dedicated processing power allocated to shared hosting accounts, which should support around 60 simultaneous connections at the maximum limit of peak traffic.
VPS Hosting – 2GB RAM: 50GB SSD RAID-10 Storage, 1.5TB Bandwidth, 4 Core CPU, 2GB RAM
With the ability to host unlimited domains and add-on reseller services, the 2 GB VPS hosting plan from GreenGeeks will support around 120 simultaneous users across all domains. Because it is easy to have 10 or 20 domains hosted under 50GB of storage, the RAM limitations are the main aspect of scaling processing power on the platform. Because there is only one dedicated IP address allocated per VPS, adding multiple ecommerce sites will require the addition of both an SSL certificate and a new dedicated IP address for each.
VPS Hosting – 3GB RAM: 75GB SSD RAID-10 Storage, 2TB Bandwidth, 4 Core CPU, 3GB RAM
With the GreenGeeks 3GB RAM VPS account, site owners will be able to host unlimited sites and databases under cPanel with the expectation of supporting approximately 180 simultaneous users across all domains at peak traffic. If each domain is CMS-driven and not properly optimized through page caching for anonymous users, or utilizes ecommerce functionality with web encryption for each site, the performance will be noticeably decreased from this estimate. Still, this account is around 10x the power of a shared hosting plan, at around half the comparable price.
VPS Hosting – 4GB RAM: 100GB SSD RAID-10 Storage, 2.5TB Bandwidth, 4 Core CPU, 4GB RAM
Like all of the GreenGeeks VPS plans, the 4 GB VPS accounts run on quad-core Xeon servers and accelerated SSD RAID storage. Site owners can expect to manage about 250 simultaneous users per minute across all domains using this plan. Because site traffic obviously varies per domain, this plan could be used to host one popular ecommerce site, or 10 to 100 smaller domain presences, depending on the functionality of the websites. Under a best case scenario, it is possible to serve around 10 million page views per month on this plan.
VPS Hosting – 8GB RAM: 125GB SSD RAID-10 Storage, 3TB Bandwidth, 4 Core CPU, 8GB RAM
The 8 GB VPS account from GreenGeeks is designed to meet the highest performance requirements for web and mobile applications. Site owners can expect to manage around 500 simultaneous users and upwards to 20 million page views per month on this configuration, depending on how the sites are coded. While one website may not generate this much traffic, hosting 10 or 20 domains on the account can be done with high-performance, multiple dedicated IPs, web encryption, and dynamic content before maxing out and requiring a cloud hosting solution with server node clusters. GreenGeeks only offers one dedicated server account with more RAM than this VPS account, which is about 25 times what a shared hosting account has access to, at half the comparable price.
These estimates for VPS usage are based on the maximum allocation of resources with continual peak traffic at an even level across all times, which is unlikely in practice. The lack of “burstable” RAM facilities for traffic spikes that exceed the maximum configuration limits of a VPS account is noticeably missing from the GreenGeeks plans. This creates a layer of uncertainty in how the VPS will manage traffic spikes that exceed the allocated resources. Because of this concern, site owners should strongly consider available cloud hosting solutions available at similar prices if a website (or portfolio of domains) regularly runs against the resource limit of what a single VPS plan will allow.
Overview of the GreenGeeks Reseller Server Hosting Plans
|Reseller Hosting Plans:||Introductory Price:||Renewal Price:||Compare:|
The Reseller accounts at GreenGeeks are designed for web professionals, web design firms, graphic arts companies, and social media marketers primarily who need a way to host multiple client domains under a single framework while also billing independently for add-on services. The main advantage of the GreenGeeks Reseller hosting plans are the included licenses for cPanel/WHM, eNom, and ClientExec which are relatively costly when purchased outside of the bulk-discounting facilities of a web hosting company. Other users may run an independent “white label” web hosting company using the same set of tools. While there is not a lot of mark-up opportunity on eNom reseller domains, the ability to offer domain registration services and web hosting accounts as part of annual web development contracts or monthly service fees to clients is valuable to many independent web professionals.
Reseller Hosting – Seed: 50 GB SSD, 500 GB Bandwidth, Unlimited cPanel Accounts, eNom Account, ClientExec
Because the GreenGeeks Reseller accounts provide the ability for users to set their own margins and over-sell services to clients independently, there is a strictly defined limit on disk space and bandwidth for each account. Web professionals who sign up for the reseller service can start at the “Seed” level and then scale up to a new account as the number of clients hosted by the company grows.
Reseller Hosting – Sprout: 80 GB SSD, 800 GB Bandwidth, Unlimited cPanel Accounts, eNom Account, ClientExec
The GreenGeeks “Sprout” Reseller plan operates on the same foundation as shared hosting with the exception of the WHM and ClientExec tools. This means that even if the ability exists to host unlimited domains under the 80 GB disk space restriction, performance will be minimal if the sites are high traffic and exceed 20 simultaneous users across all hosted sites per minute. Because this creates serious risk for client service accounts under a shared hosting framework, the same reseller tools are provided by GreenGeeks on VPS plans where server resources can be managed more thoroughly according to processor demand and shared RAM requirements for multiple performance-heavy website accounts.
Reseller Hosting – Plant: 120 GB SSD, 1.2 TB Bandwidth, Unlimited cPanel Accounts, eNom Account, ClientExec
Another aspect to consider when evaluating which GreenGeeks Reseller account to purchase is the fact that there is only 1 IP address allocated per plan by default and additional ones will be billed at a $30 annual fee. For example, while unlimited domains can be hosted under a shared framework with cPanel, each site running under https will need a unique IP address and SSL certificate. However, while increasing the number of dedicated IP addresses will essentially double the number of simultaneous connections allowed per account, all of the hosted domains will still be under the same RAM limitations. This creates a practical limit on the number of “unlimited” domains that can be effectively managed under any shared cPanel hosting account if any of the websites attracts consistently high traffic.
Reseller Hosting – Tree: 160 GB SSD, 1.6 TB Bandwidth, Unlimited cPanel Accounts, eNom Account, ClientExec
The lack of scalable RAM increases on the GreenGeeks Reseller hosting plans means that however many domains are registered under one account, all of the websites will still be limited by the 20% of CPU, 1024MB of virtual RAM, and 20 concurrent connections that are allocated to any of the shared accounts. Since single sites running on GreenGeeks that are processor and RAM intensive can max out server resources, there is little likelihood that these accounts will support 1,200 page hits per hour, 25,000+ page loads per day, and 864,000 site hits per month without timing out. Web developers using the Reseller hosting services will need to optimize all sites extensively to maximize performance under these cost restrictions. Nevertheless, many domain portfolios run well under those traffic requirements, making the service plans attractive for hosting multiple low traffic sites.
Reseller Hosting – Forest: 200 GB SSD, 2 TB Bandwidth, Unlimited cPanel Accounts, eNom Account, ClientExec
Because the VPS framework offered by GreenGeeks only allows server extensions that run with cPanel and WHM under CentOS 5.1, server level caching is limited to APC integration with CMS platforms primarily and use of the integrated CloudFlare CDN services. Because CloudFlare is a “free” add-on service that essentially takes over aspects of site control outside of the developer's hands, it is not really recommended for dynamic websites with frequently updated content and continual site changes. Most developers prefer to run more advanced page caching optimization strategies for website page load speed and advanced performance like Nginx and Varnish Cache on VPS compared to CloudFlare's CDN services. Site owners needing to install an OS other than CentOS 5.1 or extensions for high-performance websites not compatible with cPanel will need to upgrade to a dedicated server account.

GreenGeeks offers full transparency in the specifications of their data center hardware across all web hosting accounts. Their dedicated servers display the same attention to quality in selecting the best hardware components for each rackmount system. Where previously the GreenGeeks dedicated server plans were more expensive than other web hosts, they have recently discounted prices to make them more cost effective for clients. The main advantage of the dedicated server plans at GreenGeeks is based in the standards of their data center technology and renewable energy pledges. As dedicated server hardware is considered as a commodity in the web hosting industry and data center companies receive bulk-rate, wholesale discounting from vendors, the expertise behind the data center management teams and their proprietary network optimization systems has become the determining factor for choosing which dedicated server plan to purchase in long-term contracts.
GreenGeeks currently has four main dedicated server accounts based on different hardware configurations to chose from:
Dedicated Server Hosting – Entry: Intel Atom 330 Dual Core, 2 GB DDR3 RAM, 1x 500 GB SATA Drive, 5 IP Addresses, 10 TB Transfer
Most users have been unimpressed with Intel's Atom line of low-power servers, based on “system-on-a-chip” technology similar to the ARM processors which power mobile phones, but GreenGeeks uses this CPU in a dual-core configuration for entry level dedicated server plans. With 5 unique IP addresses valued at $150 per year and a low introductory cost cheaper than many VPS accounts, this dedicated server plan can be considered for hosting many low traffic sites which do not require frequent database operations on a regular basis to function.
Dedicated Server Hosting – Standard: Xeon E3-1220 3.1Ghz, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 2x 500 GB SATA Drive, 5 IP Addresses, 10 TB Transfer
The Intel Xeon E-series is a well respected and widely used server processor (quad-core) that is very suitable for advanced CMS website hosting, complex web & mobile applications, and multi-site domain portfolio hosting. Site owners will have no problem managing multiple ecommerce sites or any of the popular CMS scripts on this architecture. With the ability to customize the server environment and operating system working directly with GreenGeeks data center technicians, this plan is also excellent for those looking to outsource in-house IT resources for business cost savings.
Dedicated Server Hosting – Elite: Xeon E3-1230 3.2Ghz w/HT, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 2x 500 GB SATA Drive, 5 IP Addresses, 10 TB Transfer
The Intel Xeon E3-1230 3.2Ghz w/HT performs about 25% better in benchmarks tests than the Xeon E3-1220 3.1Ghz processor, and with double the RAM of the “Standard” dedicated server offering available at GreenGeeks, this plan is about optimal performance for high traffic websites, mobile apps, and domain portfolios under multi-site hosting set-ups. Estimates are for about 500 simultaneous users and 20 million page loads per month across all domains depending on the level of caching and CMS optimization involved with the websites hosted.
Dedicated Server Hosting – Pro: Xeon E5-2620 2.0Ghz w/HT, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, 2x 500 GB SATA Drive, 5 IP Addresses, 10 TB Transfer
The Intel Xeon E5-2620 2.0Ghz w/HT processor performs about the same as the Xeon E3-1230 3.2Ghz w/HT in benchmark tests, but the addition of 16 GB RAM on this hardware will essentially double the amount of available concurrent database connections possible. Site owners considering this plan can estimate approximately 1000 simultaneous users and up to 40 million page loads per month for single or multi-domain hosting on a single server. These estimates may vary or decrease depending on the CMS configurations, number of domains, amount of encryption, and other factors. Any more traffic than this would require a multi-node server cluster array under the most advanced cloud hosting frameworks.
Because there are so many uses for dedicated servers in IT which include cloud computing applications, web hosting, mobile apps, and multi-domain portfolio management, GreenGeeks encourages all prospective buyers of dedicated services to contact their technical department directly to discuss needed configurations and support requirements.
GreenGeeks has their own custom website builder which they offer to customers free of charge. Although most people who sign up for a web hosting account are not typically planning on using a website builder, this option is primarily meant for beginners who are seeking a quick and easy way to make their own website. Note that before you can use it, customers must contact customer support to have the website builder installed on their account. Although it’s a nice option, we feel that the website builder can’t quite compete with larger, more popular ones like Wix or Weebly. The GreenGeeks website builder is, however, better than we originally thought and can get the job done for customers looking to build a simple, informational website. For more power and flexibility, or to try out and demo open source scripts, consider using Softaculous or Fantastico in cPanel instead.
Account Management – Tools, Features, & Control Panels
Managing your account with GreenGeeks is fairly simple and straight forward. You’ll first login to the GreenGeeks Account Management Panel (AMP) to get started (they’ll email you your login info after you sign up). Below is a screenshot of what it looks like.
You can easily manage your account and billing info from here. Notable features include easy access to customer support and free site migration. For new customers with existing sites, you can request a GreenGeeks site migration from the Support tab. This is a handy feature for users who do not wish to do all the “work” involved when transferring a website from one host to another. You can also easily contact customer support from the AMP interface by clicking “Open Ticket”. Unfortunately, for those who prefer phone support, their support telephone number is inconveniently absent. You have to really look around to find it. On the other hand, it is simple to contact the GreenGeeks team via chat for an immediate response and they usually respond within 4 to 6 hours on support ticket requests.
Review of the Control Panel
GreenGeeks uses cPanel, the same industry standard control panel that most web hosts use. They have no custom branding or colors on their cPanel and use the default Paper Lantern or X3 theme. If you’re familiar with cPanel, you’ll feel quite comfortable with GreenGeeks. It's quite clean and has no (or very little) advertisements. Here’s a screenshot of the GreenGeeks control panel:
Servers: When it comes to our experience with GreenGeeks, we’ve found that GreenGeeks hosted sites load fairly quickly, but can vary depending on the configuration of your website. For example, our WordPress hosted site would continually load abnormally slow, until we installed a caching plugin. The AMP and control panel within GreenGeeks also seems to load slower and there is a noticeable pause when navigating around. That being said, their shared hosting plan can handle decent traffic and generally speaking, will offer decent hosting speeds. However, when a single CMS website can exceed server resources if requiring extensive processor usage, the upgrade time is essentially swift on high traffic accounts to be moved to a VPS or dedicated server plan at GreenGeeks. The same will also apply to advanced domain portfolio management in multi-site hosting. Nevertheless, these same restrictions on CPU usage and RAM are found on all shared hosting accounts in the industry, and GreenGeeks refuses to oversell their services on matter of principle.
Each shared hosting account at GreenGeeks receives individual resources. The standard configuration is 20% of the CPU, 1024MB of virtual RAM (of which 384 MB is physical memory), and 20 concurrent connections maximum. To break these restrictions down further:
HTTP: 20-30 simultaneous connections per IP address
Email: 20 simultaneous connections per IP address
FTP: 8 concurrent users on each site permitted
MySQL: 40 simultaneous processes per site
Total: Maximum of 25 concurrent entry processes
Each additional IP address is $30 per year, which will effectively double these values for every site hosted under https with a SSL certificate and a unique IP address. However, there is no way to increase the RAM allocation on either shared or reseller hosting accounts. All of the GreenGeeks hosting accounts with the exception of dedicated servers run on the same hardware configurations, so there are no redundant or outdated servers in the data center where low traffic sites are hosted from. Rather, all of the shared, reseller, and VPS hosting accounts are running on the same Supermicro rackmount servers with the latest generation of Intel Xeon processors (currently quad-core) and a minimum of 64 GB DDR3 ECC RAM. Additionally, GreenGeeks has recently upgraded all data center hardware to be based on RAID-10 SSD storage arrays for maximum performance acceleration of page load speeds.
Network: GreenGeeks offers decent performance & reliability – especially with the recent improvements that were made. As a GreenGeeks customer, you are allowed to choose from 1 of 4 different database locations – Chicago, Phoenix, Toronto, and (soon) Amsterdam. Each data center is SAS 70 Type 1 certified, 300% wind powered, running on Cisco and Juniper routing technology, while connected internationally through a BGP4 Gigabit multiple Fiber GigE Tier 1 “backbone” system. You can learn more about the GreenGeeks data center & server technology here.
Performance: We continually test and monitor the performance of GreenGeeks with Pingdom site monitoring tools to get a more technical measure of performance data. The results below are dynamically pulled from Pingdom:
Hosting Type Tested: Shared
Hosting Plan: Eco
Location Tested: North America
Description: Performance stats of the last 30 days from our GreenGeeks test account.
NOTE ABOUT TEST STATS: Keep in mind the above data is not fully representative of all the websites hosted on GreenGeeks. There are too many factors that influence performance stats – including the specific server the site is hosted on, the web hosting plan chosen, the optimization of the actual website, scheduled maintenance, geolocation, etc. Our tests are performed on low-end shared hosting accounts for each web host reviewed to showcase the most modest performance stats.

Some Things to Consider Before You Purchase…
As with any web host, there are always pros and cons that you should consider. We’ve discussed many of the pros for GreenGeeks, but here’s a further explanation of the cons. These are things we feel GreenGeeks could improve for their customers:
Expensive renewal rates: This is a common issue for many web hosts. Customers purchase a web hosting plan at a low introductory rate and then get slapped in the face when it comes time for renewal. GreenGeeks typically offers about 50% off during the first term so beware when it comes to renewal. We always recommend taking full advantage of the best pricing by purchasing the 3 year term so you have quite a bit of time to enjoy that great introductory price. Just remember that eventually, you’ll need to pay the regular rate.
Costly Upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated Plan: GreenGeeks offers reasonably priced shared hosting, but when your site outgrows it and is ready for a move to a VPS or Dedicated hosting plan, you’ll be faced with an expensive upgrade. Their VPS and Dedicated hosting plans are much higher priced and since you’d be an existing customer, you won't be able to take advantage of the introductory pricing that you see listed on their website.
GreenGeeks Website Builder: As we discussed earlier, the GreenGeeks website builder is nice, but not the best choice. If you’re looking to use a website builder, there are better options available. GreenGeeks is a web host suitable for building websites with a variety of other platforms – so take advantage of that!
Complaints of Billing Issues: This is something that we’ve heard from a few GreenGeeks customers and is a serious problem, if true. There are numerous complaints on the internet about this as well. According to these incidents, it appears that GreenGeeks tends to overcharge customers or force customers to stay with their company by holding their domain name ransom. It’s always a good idea to read the TOS with GreenGeeks before you sign up. Especially when using a free domain name. It’s best to keep your domain name separate from your hosting account.
DID YOU KNOW? On average, GreenGeeks serves over 60 million unique visitors per month across all its servers.
Additional Features Worth Mentioning
GreenGeeks web hosting services have won numerous awards and they are one of the most respected companies in the sector due to their data center innovation. GreenGeeks also offers platform specific Drupal and Joomla hosting services. The main advantages of these plans is one-click installation, the inclusion of Drush for Drupal, and an performance optimized environment. GreenGeeks is developing targeted CMS platform hosting to remain competitive and meet client demands. We expect more innovation from the company in this area in the future.
Upgraded Hardware – GreenGeeks has been working hard to improve their overall hosting speeds. They now have upgraded all server connectivity from 100Mpbs to 1 Gbps.
Installation of SSD Accelerated RAID-10 Arrays – This has allowed GreenGeeks to see up to 100% increase in server performance. Furthermore, GreenGeeks informed us that they have recently upgraded all of their CPU’s to the latest Intel Xeon models and upped their minimum RAM per server to 64GB (DDR3/ECC).
FastCGI – GreenGeeks now uses FastCGI, which allows sites to take advantage of PHP caching. This results in faster page loads and lower I/O on the storage arrays which increases reliability as well.
Conclusion – To Host or Not to Host?
As we reach the conclusion of our GreenGeeks review, we sincerely hope that it helped you decide whether or not you should host your site with them. Every site is different and you’ll need to determine if this web host best suits your needs. For further information about GreenGeeks, visit their website at www.greengeeks.com.
