Hi! Welcome back. This is step 1 of our 5 step video series on how to make your own website. In this video, I’m going to discuss the planning stage – which is basically a preparation process that you’ll need to undergo before you can start building your website. The planning stage is a very important step. Think of it as the foundation for your website. Before you can start building, you need to plan on WHAT you’ll be building.

The planning stage involves:

  • Determining the purpose of your website and what functionality/features your website will need to accomplish that purpose
  • Creating a site outline to help you construct the basic layout of all the pages your website will have
  • Analyzing your competitors and their existing websites to discover what works and what doesn’t
  • Adjusting/tweaking the site outline based off of the new information you’ve found from your competitor analysis.
  • Brainstorming & writing basic content for each of those pages
  • And lastly, choosing a domain name for the address of your website

Getting back to my fictional example with Sarah and her bakery business, I’ll show you a practical application of this in the next video. Watch along as I show Sarah how to accomplish the planning stage for her needs and then you can apply this to your own, real world business.
